The color of the ribbons are as followed; Gwagbok Medal-Green, Sam-Il Medal-Tan, Cheon-Su Medal-Red, Gukseon Medal-Blue, and Tong-Il Medal-Purple. At the center of ribbon is the taeguk symbol, the insignia of South Korea's national flag.

What is the Order of National Security Merit (Korea) Decoration?

The Order of National Security Merit is one of South Korea's Orders of Merit. The order is divided into five classes which are (Ascending Ranks); Gwagbok Medal, Sam-Il Medal, Cheon-Su Medal, Gukseon Medal, and Tong-Il Medal. In September 2011, Col. Bradley Hayworth of the U.S Armed Forces, Director of Intelligence, and Surveillance and Reconnaissance at Air Force Global Strike Command was awarded the Samil Medal of the Order of National Security Merit for his work with senior leaders while serving as the director of plans and exercises division in Korea. In addition, in May 2015, Gen. Hawk Carlisle of the U.S Armed Forces, commander of Air Combat Command, was awarded the Tongil Medal. The Tongil award was presented by Ahn Ho-Young, the Ambassador of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea, to the United States of America.

1st class Order: will be worn with a sash from the right should down to left side waist. A medal will be suspended on the bottom left from the sash. Additionally, a medal is also attached to the left side of the chest. 2nd Class Order: wears both on the left side chest and around the neck suspended with a ribbon. 3rd Class Order: is worn on the neck, suspended with a ribbon. 4th-5th Class Order: Worn on left side of the chest.

Order of National Security Merit (Korea) and the Stolen Valor Act

The Stolen Valor Act of 2013 is a federal law that makes it illegal for any person to falsely claim to be the recipient of certain military awards, "with the intention of obtaining money, property, or other tangible benefit by convincing another that he or she received the award".This decoration is covered by the Stolen Valor act. Fraudulently claiming to have received a Order of National Security Merit (Korea) can result in punishment including a fine, imprisonment for not more than one year, or both
